Korean National Treasure No.1 Fire-2008 : Choi Hangyoung

Choi ‘s gaze started from Kosovo refugees in the early days and went from the current meaning to the communication between East and West civilizations in the series “Iron Silk Road”. He expressed impressive color photographs of how things have changed since ancient times and how they are changing today. Since then, he has always stood on the scene of the oil spill in Taean, the redevelopment of the Four Rivers, and the environmental destruction of the Miryang and Cheongdo power towers.

The work to be revealed this time is a picture of the way that Namdaemun, the first national treasure of Korea, was burning down on fire. The scenery of the cultural heritage that represents the Korean Peninsula that is oxidized in the flame hurts the hearts of Koreans. What does history mean in a rapidly changing modern society? Are we not forgetting the lessons of history so easily? Like the ashes in this stupid flame, one day, this civilization will farewell on Earth.
